History:

Harry Davis, founder of Valley Solvent Company, first established the Harlingen, Texas based company back in 1952. Fifty-three years later the company remains privately held and managed by the founding family.

Harry, a native of Michigan and a former WW II pilot, was employed by Humble (Gulf) Oil Company in Harlingen, Texas. While there in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, he left Gulf to start Valley Solvent Company with one used truck and a used tank - delivering primarily to dry cleaners and garages with one product - Varsol (Mineral Spirits). For many years Harry drove his own truck while maintaining his business office in his home with his wife June working with him.

In the 1950's and 60's industry was scarce in the primarily agricultural area of deep south Texas, but solvents were also used as herbicides, in formulating insecticides, citrus waxes, etc. While growing the agricultural chemicals business in the Valley, in 1965 Harry expanded his petroleum naphtha market northward by establishing a solvent business in Corpus Christi, Texas. That same year he built his first permanent office, warehouse, and tank farm in the south Texas Valley near Combes, Texas.

In 1972, Harry Davis died of cancer at the age of 52. His wife, June, and his son, Bill (19) continued the business with the same values and traditions Harry established. As industry began developing along the border of Texas and northern Mexico, Valley Solvents expanded its industrial solvents product line and supplier base.

In 1982, Valley Solvents expanded further north in Texas (525 miles) by acquiring Worth Solvents, Inc. in Fort Worth, Texas. Additionally, the 80's and 90's saw an expansion of Valley's product lines and services to include inorganic chemicals, surfactants, acids, bases, specialty chemicals, environmental services and waste transportation.

Today, Valley Solvents & Chemicals is a full-line chemical distributor supplying quality products to companies throughout Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Northern Mexico. Operating with it's own fleet of tank trucks, bobtails, vans and flat trailers, and combined with its Mexican subsidiary, Valley Solvents & Chemicals S.A. de C. V., VSC is well positioned to continue its tradition of providing superior chemical distribution and environmental services on all sides of the border of Texas.

"The philosophy this company has operated under for 53 years is - service to our customers, dedication to our employees, and ethical business practices," says Bill Davis, President. "We are a relatively small business, but today we feel we are poised to become the dominant independent chemical distributor in Texas."
